From my studio in San Diego, I create original oil paintings inspired by the serene and intricate beauty of nature. My work is particularly influenced by my fondness for the graceful presence of butterflies, hummingbirds, dragonflies, and dandelions.
I am always captivated by the delicate rhythm of a butterfly’s flight—its rapid wingbeats followed by a tranquil glide. These fleeting pauses in motion are central to my artistic vision, and I seek to capture these brief, still moments in my paintings to offer the viewer a chance for peaceful reflection.
To me, butterflies symbolize metamorphosis and the nuanced passage of time. They evoke a poignant blend of nostalgia for those who have passed and a gentle hope for future connections with loved ones. Through my art, I aim to embody the delicate beauty of life, change, and growth, hoping to impart positivity, serenity, and gratitude to those who view my work.
Each painting created using a mixture of Winsor & Newton professional-grade oil paints and safflower oil. This method allows for rich colors, deep textures, and extended drying times, making it ideal for detailed and layered artwork. Once the painting dries, I seal it with a Gamblin gloss varnish. The combination of high-quality materials and attention to detail ensures each piece longevity and vibrancy.
Paintings on canvas are typically sold unframed; however, if you prefer to coordinate the framing process with me prior to shipment, I am happy to discuss those add-on options with you.
Paintings come in various sizes, which are detailed in each listing. Custom sizes can often be accommodated upon request. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs.
Simply send me an email at katesandsart@gmail.com with the listed work you are interested in purchasing. I also accept commissions for custom paintings. To preserve your oil painting, keep it in a dry, cool environment away from direct sunlight and humidity. Avoid hanging it in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations. Dust it gently with a soft cloth from time to time.
